Fact-Checking

Another one of those pesky "facts" that's handed out in church and riddled with errors. I could make a never-ending scrolling post of the stuff that pastors say from the pulpit and no one ever fact checks because "why would he lie to us? He's an upstanding man who doesn't lie!" Of course, pastors have a fear and profit motive to keep you fed the stuff that makes you afraid to flee and to keep the checks rolling in.

As Rick Santorum reminded me recently (with his claim that people are being killed against their will in the Netherlands), I was told lots of stuff that were unabashed lies in church - and I never bothered to fact-check myself. I just trusted they were true.

Merry Xmas

Thinking It Through

Christian: I don't believe people that haven't heard about Christianity are going to hell.
Atheist: Then why would you tell them?

Theist Man: I believe every aborted child is in heaven.
Atheist Woman: We would be doing them a favor by aborting them then.

It's so odd that Christians would choose to believe in a system that inherently unfair and then try to make it fair again by shifting the rules in their heads only to find that the logic still fails when you follow it to its conclusion. And then never go back and look at the original premises that got them there.

We Got Scared

Pat Robertson

An earthquake and a hurricane in the span of a week? It's time for Pat Robertson to issue a statement that "god" is mad at him and he needs to change his evil ways.
